Homemade remedy for cough: the solution is simple

When you have a cough whether dry or with phlegm (white or yellow phlegm)  its better to makes use of homemade remedies rather than depending on medicines. Especially, if children have a cough then it’s better to avoid medicines. There are a lot of home remedies for cough. And they are very easy to make. The ingredients required are easily available in your kitchen. There are certain ingredients which are common in a lot of homemade remedies for cough; which includes honey and ginger. But there are some remedies which don’t make use of them at all.

Using honey

Honey is a very common ingredient in homemade remedy for dry cough. By using honey it makes the remedy a bit tastier. The first and the easiest one is, to add honey to milk which is slightly hot and drink it. Also if you use both honey and lemon in hot liquids like water or tea, this may also help in stopping your cough for some time.

You can also make a homemade cough syrup called red onion and honey syrup. For that you have to peel and then cut the onion up. Then in bowl you have to make layers of onion and between each layer of onion put honey on it. Do this until the entire onion has been placed in the bowl, after that leave it over night. The next day what you will have is a sweet syrup in your bowl. This homemade cough syrup of yours has nutrients, vitamins and minerals in it. It will definitely help you with your cough because it soothes your throat.

Cinnamon can also be added to honey and it becomes a home remedy for cough. For this one you have to add a pinch of cinnamon to a one tablespoon of slightly hot honey. It tastes yummy and it also helps to coat your dry throat and stop your cough.

Honey may not be the main ingredient but it can be added to a mixture. For e.g.: boiling water with garlic cloves and one table spoon of oregano. Then add one tablespoon of honey to it and drink it.

Using ginger


Ginger is another common ingredient used in stopping cough. Eating raw ginger or drinking ginger tea 3 to 4 times in a day helps in curing your cough. There are many ways in which ginger can be used in homemade remedy for cough.

You can make a paste using red pepper, ground ginger, apple cider vinegar, honey and water. Mix them all up and you have your paste ready. Then whenever you have a cough you can take one table spoon of it. Another very useful homemade remedy is to make a mixture of one to two gm powder of black pepper, dry ginger, and long pepper in equal ratios. To eat it you may add honey to it.

If you have a cough that has been prolonged for a while then you can try the following homemade remedy for cough. For this remedy you need to crush 2 to 3 garlic and some cloves. Then we add this to milk or water. Then we boil it until it reduces to about half of what it was. After its boiled filter it into a glass, add sugar and then drink it. You can drink this twice in a day and continue for a week.

The most commonly used home remedy for cough is a cough syrup. For this you need to add half tablespoon of ginger paste to a half tablespoon of pepper powder. Then we add vinegar and honey in to it. And lastly water. You can take the syrup 2 to 3 times a day.

There are many other homemade remedies which are simple and effective. Whatever kind of cough you are having they can cure it.

To clear up your throat and breathing path, another homemade remedy for cough is by taking a steam. It’s very simple and the easiest of all the other coughing remedies. For taking a steam you just have to boil water. When it’s boiled, take it off the stove and keep it in front of you. Then keep a cloth over your head that also covers the saucepan, so that you directly breathe the heat and it doesn’t get cold easily. You have to inhale the steam for 3 to 5 minutes. And you have to do this at least thrice a week. This homemade remedy for cough is very effective.

Another homemade remedy for cough is turmeric milk. This one sounds a bit odd but it’s again very soothing for your throat. For this one you have heat up one cup milk. When it’s hot, then add 1/6th of teaspoon of turmeric powder and cook for a while until the milk is the color of the powder. It’s supposed to be drunk while it’s still a bit hot.

The third homemade remedy for cough is for those who like drinking tea. To sooth an irritating cough add one spoonful of honey to rose hip tea. To make the tea, add two teaspoon dried rose hips per cup of boiling water. Let it cook for 10 to 15 minutes. Then before drinking it add honey to your tea.
